Technicians must think about conservation and combine eco – friendly practices into one‘s professional conduct. It is the responsibility of both the practice of engineering to just provide advice.
Sustainable Development and Environmental Stewardship
Much of society still has a low level of awareness, understanding, and value for sustainable practices, sustainability, and environmental responsibility, and their application is still evolving. Because the world is divided on how to define people’s needs (frequently puzzling desires), it is difficult to distinguish between sustainability and sustainable development. Sustainability is the ability to endure or hold on, whereas environmental sustainability is a strategy for achieving growth without jeopardizing our future generations’ ability to meet their needs. The main goal of sustainability is to save the climate, whereas the green economy focuses on infrastructure development and maintaining a clean environment in order to achieve growth.
Relationship between Sustainable Development and Environmental Stewardship
Sustainable environment is concerned with preserving what we have, whereas sustainability is concerned with acquiring what we require. We didn’t fulfill one without satiating the other.
Sustainability rarely occurs without environmental consequences, and environmental stewardship rarely occurs without economic costs. One of the major issues in sustainable development is project-focused assessment that ignores impacts beyond the project boundaries.
A civilization has to be rich enough to afford to protect and preserve the environment in order to do so. Sustainable development and environmental stewardship must both notify our judgement in order for this to occur. In an ideal world, sustainability would strike a balance between environment protection, culture, and the economy. The financial benefits of environmental custodianship, on the other hand, are not always obvious or easily quantifiable.
Role of the Engineer in the Delivery of a Sustainable Future
Engineers are working as staff, business owners, scientists, scholars, professionals, as well as in managerial and regulatory positions. They regularly work as a member of a team with other specialists, which means they may or may not have control over, or be solely responsible for, a specific project. Technicians, on the other hand, should comprehend and control the environmental aspects of projects in which they are engaged to the maximum extent possible. Professionals must be involved in all initiatives to prepare a new clear rationale for implementing more sustainable solutions that serve the public interest.
